Apple Dumplings

Ingredients

  • Granny smith or red delicious apples, peeled and cored
  • Pie crust (homemade or ready-made)
  • Sugar mixture for filling (amounts not provided)
  • Butter (amount for each apple not provided)
  • Red food coloring (optional for sauce)

Sauce

  • 2 cups water
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • ΒΌ teaspoon cinnamon

Steps

  1. Wrap each peeled and cored apple in a piece of pie crust.
  2. Fill the hole of the apple with a cinnamon sugar mixture and place a pat of butter on top.
  3. Place wrapped apples in a deep baking pan.
  4. Mix sauce ingredients, adding red food coloring if desired, and pour over the apples.
  5. Bake in a preheated 425-degree oven for 40 to 45 minutes.

For the sauce, cook on top of the stove until butter melts and sugar dissolves.
