Apple Dumplings
Ingredients
- Granny smith or red delicious apples, peeled and cored
- Pie crust (homemade or ready-made)
- Sugar mixture for filling (amounts not provided)
- Butter (amount for each apple not provided)
- Red food coloring (optional for sauce)
Sauce
- 2 cups water
- 1 cup sugar
- 2 tablespoons butter
- ΒΌ teaspoon cinnamon
Steps
- Wrap each peeled and cored apple in a piece of pie crust.
- Fill the hole of the apple with a cinnamon sugar mixture and place a pat of butter on top.
- Place wrapped apples in a deep baking pan.
- Mix sauce ingredients, adding red food coloring if desired, and pour over the apples.
- Bake in a preheated 425-degree oven for 40 to 45 minutes.
For the sauce, cook on top of the stove until butter melts and sugar dissolves.
